Monitored Security Systems

There are several types of security systems on the market, and finding the right one for your home takes careful consideration. The ultimate goal is keeping your house and family safe. When it comes to security, monitored systems typically offer the most benefits.

Monitored security systems have local alarms and also contact emergency services in the event of a break-in or other event. Sensors around the house detect motion, opening of windows and doors, fires and other potential threats. They connect to phone landlines, cellular lines or Wi-Fi to contact the proper authorities automatically.

With this type of security system, you often have to hire a professional to ensure it's installed properly. However, some security systems, like SimpliSafe, are simple to install without the need for special tools or skills.

Additionally, you pay a monthly fee for the service to connect to security centers. The advantage is that you have peace of mind knowing they alert you and the police as soon as a break-in occurs in your home.

Unmonitored Security Systems

Unmonitored security systems don't have monthly fees associated with them because they don't connect to emergency services or security centers. Instead, these systems have loud alarms that sound when one of the circuits on the window or door sensors breaks.

This system is effective because the loud alarm sounding in your home deters intruders from entering further. They don't want to draw attention to themselves and may flee the scene. If you're at home, then you can call the police immediately. However, if you're not at home, you have to rely on neighbors to make the call for you.

These systems tend to be cheaper to purchase and easier to install. They're also more affordable to use in the long run because you don't have to pay any monthly fees.

The biggest disadvantage of unmonitored systems is that they're easy to disable. Monitoring centers receive an alert if a monitored system becomes disabled, but that's not the case with a local alarm. With these systems, you're relying on the siren being loud and frightening enough to drive the intruder away.

Security Lights

Outdoor lights complement any home security system. A porch light at your front door makes it easy for you to see your keys before entering your home at night, but it can also serve as a deterrent for intruders and burglars. It not only serves as a signal that people are at home, but it also makes it easier for you to see who's on your front porch.

Installing lights around other areas of the exterior of your home works in the same way. They can illuminate your driveway, a patio or the side of the house to make it easier for you to see outside at night. Additionally, unwanted visitors might stay away because they're more easily recognizable without the dark to hide in. You can install lights on a timer or motion sensor so you don't have to remember to turn them on and off every day.

Lights provide enhanced security for your home when you use them conjunction with other security systems and products. They give you a bit of peace of mind when used alone, too.

Security Cameras

Home security systems with cameras can provide you with extensive protection. In the past, security cameras were expensive and difficult to install because of the necessary wires. Additionally, recording equipment was bulky and required a lot of space.

Cameras today are small and easy to install. Companies like First Alert make wireless cameras that can record to a DVR or send video feeds directly to a mobile phone. This means that you can monitor what's going on at your house even when you're not there. By installing a camera at your front door, you can see who knocks on your door without having to open it. Additionally, you can keep an eye on deliveries dropped off on your doorstep.

Home security systems can keep your home and your family safe. With several types to choose from, you can find the one that offers the level of protection you need and fits within your budget.
